President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. commenced his five-day Official Visit to Japan as he arrived together with First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos at the Haneda International Airport in Tokyo.
Philippine Ambassador to Japan Mylene Garcia-Albano, Japan Parliament Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Rei Takagi, Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines Kazuhiko Koshikawa and other officials from the Philippine Embassy and Japanese government welcomed the Chief Executive and First Lady upon arrival.
In his departure statement, President Marcos Jr. considered this trip to be ‘essential’ as he is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida to discuss ways of enhancing closer political ties, stronger defense and security cooperation, and economic partnerships anchored on a larger foreign policy agenda of the Administration. The five-day visit seeks to strengthen friendship and collaboration between the two nations on several priority areas such as agriculture, renewable energy, digital transformation, infrastructure, defense and security.
Among the highlights of his visit include the signing and exchange of several key agreements between the Philippines and Japan covering a wide range of mutual cooperation, and his meeting with business leaders where he is set to uphold the country’s economic priorities, as well as promote trade and investment opportunities.
Likewise, the President is expected to grace an imperial audience with Their Majesties Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako, as well as a get-together with the members of the Filipino community in Japan.
The Official Visit of President Marcos Jr. is upon the invitation of Prime Minister Kishida and is his first visit to Japan since assuming the Presidency.
