President Benigno S. Aquino III arrived at exactly 7:22 in the morning (Madrid time) at the Torrejon Airbase in Madrid, the first leg in his seven-city tour in Europe and the United States of America (USA).

He was welcomed by Philippine Ambassador to Spain Carlos Salinas, Spanish Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Ambassador Gonzalo de Benito Secades and Spanish Ambassador to the Philippines Luis Antonio Calvo.

Aside from reinforcing and raising the bilateral relations with Spain, President Aquino’s visit to Madrid aims to develop economic diplomacy and promote cultural activities. The Chief Executive will have several meetings with Spanish businessmen and the Filipino businessmen will likewise meet with them for possible business ventures.

Moreover, President Aquino is scheduled to have an audience with His Majesty Felipe VI, King of Spain, and a meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy.
