President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. arrived at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport in preparation for his participation in the 46th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit, the 2nd ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit and the inaugural ASEAN-GCC-China Summit in Malaysia from May 26 to 27, 2025.

In a briefing, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) stated that across these engagements, the President will continue to uphold and promote the Philippines’ interests within ASEAN, focusing on enhancing security and stability in the Region, advancing economic cooperation and broadening engagement with Dialogue Partners.

He will also continue to underscore the country’s sovereignty, sovereign rights and jurisdiction in accordance with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the 2016 Arbitral Award.

Additionally, Leaders are expected to discuss various global issues impacting the Region and beyond, such as the situation in Myanmar, the United States of America’s (USA) new tariffs policy, and other geopolitical and geoeconomic challenges.

The DFA further noted that approximately 22 expected outcome documents will be issued during these Summits, including the Kuala Lumpur Declaration on the ASEAN Vision 2045, the Joint Statement on the 2nd ASEAN-GCC Summit and the Joint Statement on the ASEAN-GCC-China Economic Summit, among others.
