President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., together with First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos, arrived at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in the capital city of Jakarta as he embarks on his inaugural State Visit to the Republic of Indonesia on September 4-6, 2022.

The Chief Executive’s three-day State Visit is upon the invitation of President Joko Widodo that aims to further strengthen political and cordial relations between the Philippines and Indonesia. It also follows the tradition of new heads of state paying courtesy visits to fellow Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Member Countries.

“Indonesia has been our ally and one of our closest bilateral partners for the past seven decades. I shall reaffirm our ties with a fellow archipelagic nation and ASEAN co-founder, with which we share an extensive maritime border in the south of the Philippines,” President Marcos Jr. said in his departure statement.

During his visit, the Chief Executive will meet with President Joko Widodo for the first time to discuss the current and future state of bilateral relationship between the two countries, as well as the changing global geopolitical environment.

He is also scheduled to interact with the Filipino community in a gathering on the first day of his foreign visit to convey his appreciation for their support and valuable contributions to the country, as well as share his commitment and plans for enhancing the government’s efforts to protect the rights and ensure the welfare of overseas Filipinos.
