President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. arrived in Washington, D.C., United States of America at 7:47 PM on 10 April 2024 as he is set to participate in the first Trilateral United States-Japan-Philippines Leaders’ Summit at the White House and advance an agenda with the two countries that the Philippines shares important strategic defense, security and economic interests.
Ambassador Jose Manuel Romualdez of the Philippine Embassy to the U.S.A., Commodore Salvador Henry Quinto of the Philippine Navy (Philippine Defense and Armed Forces Attache to the U.S.), and Police Brigadier General Wilson Joseph Lopez (Police Attache, Philippine Embassy to the U.S.A.) welcomed the President upon his arrival.
From the U.S. side, Ambassador MaryKay Carlson of the U.S. Embassy to the Philippines, 89 Operations Group Commander Colonel Gregory Adams, Deputy Chief of Protocol Sharon Weber and Assistant Secretary of Defense Eli Ratner greeted President Marcos Jr.
Bound by a shared vision and pursuit of a peaceful, stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific, the President is set to highlight trilateral cooperation as a natural progression of the Philippines’ historical and strong ties with the U.S. and Japan, thereby enhancing coordination and collaboration on common priority areas.
He intends to reaffirm the robust alliance between the Philippines and the United States during the Summit, as well as the Strategic Partnership that it shares with Japan.
