President Benigno S. Aquino III joined the rest of the participating heads of state in a discussion of key priorities set by Russia’s APEC chairmanship this year during the first part of the Leaders’ Retreat.

Under the APEC 2012 theme of “Integrate to Grow, Innovate to Prosper,” the priorities are the following: trade and investment liberalization, regional economic integration, strengthening food security, establishing reliable supply chains and intensive cooperation to foster innovative growth. Efforts are also made in strengthening the operational and institutional capabilities of the APEC Secretariat.

The meeting will result in the adoption of the Leaders’ Week final declaration, which will summarize the outcome of APEC’s work in 2012 and outline other prospects for the region’s future progress and development.
