World leaders took part in a tree planting ceremony at the Summer Garden in Yanqi Lake to symbolize “Trees of Friendship” before proceeding to the Haiyan Hall of Yanqi Hotel for the AELM Working Lunch.

Some APEC leaders seized the opportunity to engage in casual talks with other APEC leaders. These included a pull-aside discussion between President Benigno S. Aquino III and China President Xi Jinping right after the tree planting ceremony.
