Sumulong Highway, Marikina City
August 11, 2025

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. personally inspected the ongoing installation of culvert pipes along Sumulong Highway in Marikina City.

The High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipes are part of a new drainage system that will direct excess stormwater to the Marikina River, helping prevent flooding in the surrounding areas.

Currently, Sumulong Highway in Marikina City is served by a two-barrel box culvert that cannot handle excess runoff during extreme typhoons, which causes flooding in some areas.

Covering an 8.82-square-kilometer catchment area, the project aims to divert floodwaters from several barangays directly into the Marikina River, reducing the risk of prolonged flooding in vulnerable communities.

This Drainage System Project starts at the Marikina River outfall below Marikina Bridge. It runs along Sumulong Highway in Marikina City from J.P. Rizal Street to Balante Creek, which marks the boundary between Marikina City and Rizal Province.
