President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led the inspection of the Pasig–Marikina River Channel Improvement Project (PMRCIP) Phase IV at the Marikina Bridge Under Loop in Barangay Sto. Niño, Marikina City.

Accompanied by key officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and local government units (LGUs), the President walked through the ongoing construction while receiving a detailed briefing from Marikina City Mayor Marjorie Ann ‘Maan’ Teodoro on the project’s timeline, scope and expected benefits.

With a total cost of PhP17.45 billion, the final phase of the PMRCIP includes both structural and non-structural measures aimed at reducing flood damage in Metro Manila caused by the overflow of the Pasig and Marikina Rivers.

In an interview with RTVM, Mayor Teodoro emphasized that the ongoing deeper dredging — which increases river capacity and prevents overflow during extreme weather — is essential for flood prevention in their City.

She also underscored that addressing flood concerns requires a whole-of-government approach and active community participation, especially in local waste management efforts.

Once completed, the project will help protect flood-prone communities in Pasig City, Quezon City and Marikina City, as well as the Municipalities of Cainta and Taytay in Rizal Province.
