MRT-3 Santolan-Annapolis Station (Southbound), EDSA, Quezon City

Senior citizens commuting via the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) expressed their gratitude to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for implementing the 50-percent train fare discount for senior citizens and persons with disability (PWDs) during the launch at the MRT-3 Santolan-Annapolis Station (Southbound) along EDSA, Quezon City.
In his brief remarks, the President noted that this initiative would benefit around 13 million senior citizens and seven (7) million PWDs.
This expanded discount coverage initiative follows President Marcos Jr.’s order in June to increase fare discounts for students from 20 percent to 50 percent across all Metro Manila rail lines, including the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1), LRT-2 and MRT-3. Similar to the 50-percent student discount, seniors and PWDs will be able to avail of reduced train fares every day, including weekends and holidays, until 2028.
The Chief Executive also provided updates on the unused 48 Dalian train carts, which are undergoing modifications and adjustments to address compatibility issues and ensure passenger safety. Currently, three (3) Dalian trains, each equipped with three (3) carts, are in service and can be utilized to help decongest the MRT-3.
As a testament to the safety of the Dalian trains, senior citizens present during the launch were the first passengers to board the inaugural Dalian train operating on MRT-3.
