President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led the turnover of 16 Mobile Soil Laboratory (MSL) units for every region in the Philippines during a ceremony at the Science City of Muñoz in Nueva Ecija.

The MSL is a ten-wheeler truck equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, resources and safety features capable of analyzing 44 soil chemical, physical and microbiological, as well as water chemical parameters. On 6 December 2024, the President inaugurated the first MSL in a ceremony at Malacañan Palace. Since then, the pilot MSL operation has been deployed in Tarlac and Nueva Ecija where it has analyzed approximately 1,500 soil samples equivalent to more than 300 hectares of land.

The 16 MSL units were received by the Regional Soil Laboratory Chiefs who will oversee the day-to-day operations following the protocols and guidelines set forth by the Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM).

Following the turnover of MSL units, President Marcos Jr. engaged in a dialogue with the national grand winners of the 50th Gawad Saka: Parangal sa mga Natatanging Magsasaka at Mangingisda in a forum. He lauded their sacrifices and exemplary contributions to the agriculture and fisheries sectors that continue to bring food security and national progress.

Likewise, he answered several questions from the Gawad Saka awardees, assuring them that the Administration has further improved its systems and services in responding to their needs, especially in times of calamities.

Today’s events formed part of the Department of Agriculture’s 127th anniversary celebration and the Bureau of Soils and Water Management’s 74th anniversary.
