In a continuing effort to combat drug abuse, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) spearheaded the anniversary celebration of the government’s flagship ‘Buhay Ingatan, Droga’y Ayawan (BIDA)’ Program at the SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds in Pasay City on March 23, 2024.

Dubbed as ‘Lakad Kontra Droga, BIDA Tayong Lahat!’ or ‘BIDA Walk’, this collaborative initiative of the BIDA Program comprised of multiple government agencies and local stakeholders is dedicated to enhancing awareness and fostering widespread engagement across the community to mitigate drug demand.

Mayor Imelda Calixto-Rubiano of Pasay City welcomed the attendees to the program’s launch and highlighted the crucial role of community engagement in combating drug proliferation. Former Senator Manny Pacquiao echoed his sentiment in his solidarity message, emphasizing the need for unified efforts in addressing societal challenges.

DILG Secretary Benjamin ‘Benhur’ Abalos Jr. delivered the keynote message where he stressed the program’s holistic approach towards reducing drug demand while respecting human rights and promoting rehabilitation and socioeconomic development.

The program’s agenda featured various segments, including performances by BIDA Ambassadors Bianca Umali and Sanya Lopez, as well as a pledge of support from different sectors such as the Liga ng mga Barangay, private organizations, faith-based groups and parents. The Flame Lighting Ceremony symbolized the commitment to illuminate the path toward a drug-free and healthier community.

With its comprehensive approach and broad support base, the BIDA Program’s ‘BIDA Walk’ signified a significant step forward in addressing the multifaceted challenges of drug abuse and public health crisis, embodying the spirit of unity and determination in safeguarding the communities’ well-being.
