“Today, we witness more than a ceremonial change of command. We come together to reaffirm a shared responsibility: a responsibility to uphold peace, to preserve justice, and to protect the dignity of the Filipino,” stated President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. during the Philippine National Police (PNP) Change of Command and Retirement Honors for Police General (PGen) Rommel Francisco D. Marbil at Camp Brigadier General Rafael Crame, Quezon City.
Addressing police officers and government officials, the President emphasized the importance of leadership rooted in service, accountability and a deep commitment to the Filipino people. He expressed gratitude to outgoing PNP Chief PGen Marbil for leading the organization with a steadfast dedication to integrity, professionalism and respect for human rights.
As the baton of leadership is passed to Police General Nicolas D. Torre III, the President issued a call to action, challenging the new PNP Chief to navigate evolving threats such as transnational crimes, cyber threats, extremist violence and police misconduct.
The Chief Executive also outlined specific priorities for General Torre, including strengthening police visibility in communities, accelerating investigations into misconduct and intensifying efforts against illegal drugs, particularly urging collaboration with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA). He further emphasized the importance of integrity and humility among police personnel.
“This Change of Command Ceremony is a renewed promise. A clear mandate to champion peace, to serve with honor, and to move our nation forward with dignity. Together, let us shape a Bagong Pilipinas — where every citizen is disciplined and obeys the laws; where every police personnel is a role model worthy of trust, of respect; and where the standard of keeping our people safe is high,” President Marcos Jr. said in concluding his message.
