“We see ASEAN-BAC not only as an advisory body, but as a vital partner in shaping ASEAN’s economic future. As we work towards the ASEAN 2045 Vision, the Philippines stands ready to collaborate in turning this vision into action by building a region that is resilient, inclusive, and digitally empowered,” conveyed President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. during the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Leaders’ Interface with Representatives of the ASEAN-Business Advisory Council (BAC) held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
In his intervention, the President commended two (2) flagship initiatives of the ASEAN-BAC. First is the ASEAN Talent Development and Mobility Initiative which helps strengthen the Region’s human capital. He said that the Philippines welcomes deeper collaboration to identify priority sectors and provide effective policy support.
Second is the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Engagement Platform which offers a timely and strategic approach to digital governance across the Region. The Chief Executive likewise expressed the country’s full support for this initiative, recognizing its potential for a future ASEAN Centre for AI built on innovation, ethical standards and transparency.
“Such Centre can lead in shaping an AI ecosystem that empowers our people, safeguards our values, and contributes to sustainable development throughout our region. We also acknowledge your assessment of the ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement (ATIGA) implementation,” he said.
Furthermore, he underscored the private sector’s important role in advancing the Digital Economy Framework Agreement where investments in digital infrastructure, innovation and human capital are key to building a digital ASEAN.
He thanked the ASEAN-BAC for championing the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) which power over 99% of the Region’s businesses and welcomed the Unique Business Identification Numbers (UBIN) Implementation Roadmap to help these enterprises grow across borders.
“The Philippines remains committed to working together with ASEAN-BAC to build a future-ready ASEAN that is united in purpose, bold in vision, and inclusive in progress,” President Marcos Jr. concluded in his intervention.
