Highlighting the grit, determination and skills of student-athletes across the Philippines, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led the opening ceremony of the 2025 Palarong Pambansa — the country’s largest youth sports competition — at the Ferdinand E. Marcos Memorial Stadium in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.

In his message, the President emphasized that student-athletes serve as an inspiration to Filipino youth through their strong ambition and unwavering determination. He recognized their hard work and sacrifices not only in pursuing the sports they love but also in demonstrating excellence and resilience that reflect national pride.

He reaffirmed the government’s steadfast commitment, underscoring that all possible efforts are being undertaken to empower young athletes in their pursuit of excellence in their chosen sports.

Additionally, he encouraged the participants of the multisport competition to stay committed to their aspirations — to train with discipline, strive for academic excellence, respect their parents, and prioritize their health and well-being.

Losers are those who fail to try. Winners are those who try, and maybe they fail, but then try again and do not stop trying until they win and succeed,” he continued.

The Chief Executive expressed profound appreciation for the steadfast support extended by the families and coaches to the young athletes, recognizing their vital role in offering guidance and encouragement through every challenge encountered.

He also thanked the sports associations and organizers, including the Department of Education (DepEd) and local government units (LGUs), who have worked tirelessly in preparing for this year’s Palarong Pambansa.
