Marking a milestone in the Administration’s commitment to modernizing the country’s ports in line with the growing needs of passengers, port users and stakeholders, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led the inauguration of the newly completed Balingoan Port Expansion Project in the Municipality of Balingoan, Misamis Oriental.

“Ang proyektong ito ay bunga ng pagsisikap ng DOTr at ng PPA – Philippine Ports Authority. Sa pagtupad ng kanilang tungkulin, mayroon na tayong mas malawak na back-up area, RoRo ramp, at Port Operations Building — mga pasilidad na tiyak ay makakapagbigay ng mas maayos na daloy ng tao at ng ating mga produkto. Hindi maikakaila ang magiging kontribusyon ng Balingoan Port dito sa inyong lalawigan, maging sa karatig-probinsya pati. Magbibigay daan ito sa mas mabilis at madaling daloy ng mga produkto at mga tao na siya naman ang magbibigay daan sa pag-unlad ng kalakalan at turismo sa inyong probinsya, at ang mga karatig na lugar, at sa buong region,” President Marcos Jr. said in his keynote message.

The newly inaugurated Port Operations Building can accommodate up to 500 seated passengers compared to the old terminal’s 150-passenger capacity and will function as a one-stop shop for port-related transactions, ensuring efficient processes while providing a conducive workspace for personnel of the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA)-Terminal Management Office.

The expansion project also has an additional roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) ramp that has the capacity to berth up to five (5) to six (6) RoRo vessels simultaneously, significantly reducing congestion and long queues of cargo and passenger vehicles waiting to board vessels bound for Camiguin.

“Higit sa pagiging daanan tungo sa mga sentro ng kalakalan, negosyo, at turismo, ang mga pantalan ay isa ring mahalagang tulay tungo sa kaunlaran ng ating bansa. Dito nagtatagpo ang mga tao. Dito dumaraan ang ating mga produkto. Dito nagkakaroon ng oportunidad ang mga kababayan nating maabot ang mas malawak na merkado para umasenso sa buhay,” the President emphasized.

Strategically located 84 kilometers from Cagayan de Oro, the Port of Balingoan is a vital transport and economic hub connecting Northern Mindanao to the Islands of Camiguin and Bohol. This PhP430.39 million expansion project is a testament to the PPA’s vision of providing world-class, future-ready port facilities across the country.

“Mga kababayan, ito po ang diwa ng aming tinatawag na Build Better More: Gumagawa tayo ng mga imprastrakturang may puso para sa ginhawa, seguridad, at pag-angat ng ating mga kababayan.…Kaya’t pangalagaan natin ito. Dahil ang mga gusali, pasilidad, at imprastraktura ay magtatagal lamang kung may malasakit ang mga gumagamit nito,” President Marcos Jr. concluded in his message.
