President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. received the executives of Amkor Technology, Inc. in a courtesy call at the Study Room, Malacañan Palace.
Amkor Technology, Inc. is one of the world’s largest providers of outsourced (OSAT) semiconductor packaging, design and test services. Its office in the Philippines, Amkor Technology Philippines, Inc., was established in 1989 and registered with the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) in December 1995.
During their meeting, the President emphasized that Amkor plays an important role in expanding the semiconductor industry in the Philippines, saying that their continued involvement is significant as the country strives to move the industry up the value chain from pure fabrication to design.
He also expressed optimism about the industry’s potential growth in the country, as more Filipinos are becoming skilled in chip manufacturing and circuit design.
The semiconductor industry accounts for a significant portion of the country’s electronic sector. In 2024, semiconductors accounted for almost 40 percent or US$29.16 billion of total exports.
The country also hosts renowned semiconductors and electronics companies, including Panasonic Murata, Sumitomo Electric, Samsung, Brother, Canon, Toshiba and Epson.
