President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. convened with various government officials to discuss the latest updates on the effects of Super Typhoon ‘Pepito’ in a situation briefing at the Provincial Capitol in Virac, Catanduanes.
According to Governor Joseph Cua, the entire Province of Catanduanes was heavily damaged, with the towns of Bagamanoc, Pandan, Gigmoto, Panganiban, Caramoran and other parts of Baras severely damaged.
He also reported no casualties; however, the strong winds caused significant damage to houses and wrecked establishments such as covered courts and police stations. Meanwhile, restoring electricity in the Province may take some time as ‘Pepito’ toppled several electric posts and severed power lines.
Several municipal mayors from the Province presented their reports about the ongoing relief efforts and provision of essential needs while also focusing on the recovery of their respective areas.
Emphasizing the key requirements for continued action toward a collective recovery from the devastation caused by the Super Typhoon, the President underscored that various forms of assistance and swift actions are already underway. These include the supply of clean water, repair of power infrastructure and restoration of communication services, among others.
Likewise, he commended the local government officials for their quick response, resulting in no casualties for the Province of Catanduanes.
President Marcos Jr. reiterated that the most immediate concerns are the damaged roads, lost communication services and evacuees who lost their homes and urgently need their houses repaired, as well as access to clean drinking water.
