President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. approved the Local Manufacturing Capabilities to Support Agri-Mechanization program of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) as he presided over a sectoral meeting in Malacañan Palace.
In a presentation, DOST Secretary Renato Solidum Jr. discussed the program that aims to boost agriculture in the country through home-grown machinery. He said that the shift from importation to local production of local machinery will benefit not only the agricultural sector but also strengthen the manufacturing industry.
The DOST Secretary highlighted the crucial role of the agriculture sector in the nation’s economy and its direct impact on the nation’s food security and livelihood.
Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. expressed support for DOST’s program, emphasizing the need to focus on which machinery to be prioritized and to ensure that the machines meet quality standards.
