“Time and again, the Philippine Marine Corps or the PMC has stood at the forefront of our nation’s defense, protecting the lives of our people, promoting peace and development and asserting our sovereignty,” President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. remarked, emphasizing that the Organization’s resolute commitment — whether on land or sea — has been instrumental in shaping the country’s security landscape today.

During the 74th birthday celebration of the Philippine Marine Corps (PMC) held in Pasay City, the President noted that the Marine Corps began as a volunteer group that has grown into a capable force under the Philippine Navy (PN), entrusted with a critical mission: to safeguard the country’s maritime sovereignty, counter insurgency and stabilize areas of conflict.

He highlighted that since its inception in 1950, the PMC has truly embraced the essence of service — engaging communist insurgents and adapting to evolving security challenges – thereby empowering the nation to confront asymmetric threats and meet each challenge with greater foresight and resolve.

“We recognize that the challenges you face now are growing more and more difficult — to defend our islands, to secure our shores, protect our people across the archipelago — each of these is a pivotal task,” he conveyed.

Additionally, he recalled that he was once trained as a marine soldier and carried the weight of both pride and responsibility. “Joining this force transformed me in ways nothing outside of the military or of the Marine Corps could possibly have given you. The marines have taught me that in moments when the path is unclear, it is our resolve — and the quiet strength to keep rising, to keep moving forward despite setbacks — that defines us,” he said.

Reaffirming the government’s support and commitment to building a stronger and more comprehensive defense posture, the Commander-in-Chief vowed to invest in modern infrastructure and upgrade facilities that will enhance the PMC’s operations, ensuring that their defense capabilities align with the country’s strategic needs.

In closing, President Marcos Jr. urged the men and women of the Marine Corps to embody the dedication and excellence that have long characterized the Organization’s distinguished legacy, as well as to impart these values to the next generation — to strengthen communities, empower Filipinos and build a ‘Bagong Pilipinas’ for all.

With this year’s theme, ’74 Years of Standing Ready to Answer the Call: To Protect the Nation and Maintain the Most Ready Force of the AFP,’ today’s event honored the countless sacrifices of the PMC who ensured safety and reinforced the very foundation of the country’s future.
