Emphasizing the Philippines’ commitment to promoting gender equality and peace, First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos keynotes the International Conference on Women, Peace and Security 2024 at the Reception Hall of the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City on 28 October 2024.

“This is the first international conference to be held in Southeast Asia that is specifically intended to take stock of how far we have all come in our countries’ implementation of women, peace and security agenda. I am honored to have you here, and hope to be able to hear your different experiences on how your countries have been working to move this agenda forward,” the First Lady conveys.

From October 28 to 30, the Conference commemorates the 25th anniversary of United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325 that champions women’s role in global peace and security.

Under the theme ‘Forging Collaboration and Convergence for Advancing Women, Peace and Security (WPS),’ the Conference brings together representatives from government, civil society, academia and international stakeholders.

It provides a platform for participants to assess progress on the WPS agenda and address ongoing challenges to women’s meaningful participation in peace and security efforts.

On this opening day, government leaders attend the High-Level Segment to review advancements and identify gaps in the WPS agenda since the adoption of UNSCR 1325.

Over the next two days, attendees will participate in four (4) thematic sessions that will explore best practices and policy innovations for implementing the WPS agenda. These discussions address both traditional challenges and emerging issues in global peace and security.

“I urge you to take some time to enjoy our beautiful city and our people’s warm hospitality. I hope your discussions are productive and enlightening and that you’ll leave with pleasant memories of Manila,” First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos concludes in her speech.
