President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. personally checked the conditions of the affected communities during a site inspection of the submerged houses and rice paddies at the Causip Staging Area in Barangay Causip, Municipality of Bula, Camarines Sur.
In his visit, he handed over financial assistance worth PhP50 million to the Provincial Government of Camarines Sur led by Governor Vincenzo Renato Luigi Villafuerte to jumpstart rehabilitation efforts in the Province.
The Chief Executive also witnessed the unloading of essential supplies, including family food packs and bottled water, provided by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). These supplies were then distributed to the pump boats for transport to nearby flooded barangays.
The Causip Staging Area serves as the primary dry land in Bula, facilitating the unloading of relief assistance from military trucks onto the pump boats. According to Bula Municipal Mayor Amelita Megay Ibasco, approximately 17 out of 33 barangays in the Municipality have been affected by flooding while three (3) barangays have been severely damaged by landslides. A total of 18,288 households, comprising 50,767 individuals, have been directly impacted by these unprecedented events.
The extensive damage to agriculture, including rice farms, livestock and fisheries, is estimated to amount to PhP1.6 billion in preliminary estimates. Additionally, damages to infrastructure, such as roads and bridges, are projected to reach PhP76 million.
As a testament to the bayanihan spirit, particularly during times of crisis, several members of the private sector have generously donated food packs to affected communities. Notably, Frabelle Corporation and San Miguel Corporation have each donated two (2) metric tons of hotdogs and 1,000 boxes of canned goods, respectively.
