President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. held a bilateral meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on the sidelines of the 44th and 45th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summits and Related Summits in Vientiane, Lao People’s Democratic Republic (PDR).
During the meeting, President Marcos Jr. sought Prime Minister Trudeau’s support for the Philippines’ position within the Group of Seven (G7), an intergovernmental organization comprising the world’s largest advanced economies. He expressed his gratitude for Canada’s support in upholding the rule of law, particularly in the Indo-Pacific region and the South China Sea, as well as highlighted the deepening ties between the Philippines and Canada which have been elevated to a Comprehensive Partnership.
Prime Minister Trudeau acknowledged the strong connections and collaborative efforts in areas of economic growth and regional security. He reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing trade relations and cooperation across various sectors in the future.
