President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. welcomed His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister SOK Chenda Sophea, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia, in a courtesy call at the Study Room in Malacañan Palace.
The President expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Deputy Prime Minister for his visit to the Philippines, underscoring the ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries which have already been nurtured since the formal establishment of relations in 1957.
During his visit, Deputy Prime Minister SOK Chenda Sophea and Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Enrique Manalo are set to co-chair the fourth meeting of the Philippines-Cambodia Joint Committee on Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) in Manila on August 27-28, 2024.
The 4th JCBC meeting aims to discuss key areas of cooperation between the two nations such as defense and security, trade and investments, agriculture and people-to-people exchanges, among others.
This also marks the Deputy Prime Minister’s first official bilateral visit to an Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Member State as Head of Delegation and the first visit by a Cambodian Foreign Minister to the country since 2017.
