Following the distribution of Presidential assistance to farmers, fisherfolk and families in the Municipality of Patikul, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. proceeded to Camp Teodulfo Bautista to meet with the Joint Task Force Orion (JTFO) during his visit to the 11th Infantry Division (11ID) in Jolo, Sulu.
Addressing the troops, the President recognized their invaluable efforts in achieving peace and security in the Province after years of terrorism by the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG). He commended the hard work and sacrifices shown by the JTFO in this success, noting that the government forces were able to significantly reduce the terrorist group’s machinery, capabilities and manpower in causing terror in the Province of Sulu.
The Commander-in-Chief encouraged the military forces to continuously perform their duties as peacekeepers, emphasizing that their job is far from over due to various external problems that pose threats across the country. This includes the growing issue of territorial defense in the West Philippine Sea, to which he urged the military forces to stay vigilant and be on the lookout for potential problems that may arise in the disputed waters.
Moreover, he discussed the upcoming elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) next year, asking the 11ID and JTFO to be on guard in ensuring an election free from terrorism and political violence.
