President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. expressed his well wishes to His Excellency Marco Clemente, Ambassador of Italy to the Philippines, for his contributions in further strengthening Philippines-Italy relations, as he received the envoy in a farewell call at the President’s Hall, Malacañan Palace.

Ambassador Clemente began his diplomatic mission in Manila on 2 September 2021 as Ambassador of the Republic of Italy to the Republic of the Philippines, Republic of Palau, Republic of Marshall Islands and to the Federated States of Micronesia.

His farewell call to the President came as the two nations celebrate the 77th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations on July 9th.

The two countries established diplomatic ties with the signing of the Treaty of Friendship and General Relations in Rome in 1947. The first Philippine Diplomatic Mission to Italy was established in July 1948 as a Legation, and subsequently elevated to the level of Embassy in August 1956.

Throughout the years, both nations embarked on several agreements in different areas of mutual interest, including scientific and technical cooperation, air services, taxation, investments and development cooperation, among many others.
