“This project is not just about transforming the energy landscape in Isabela; it is also about strengthening our entire national grid and moving us closer to a resilient and renewable energy-secure future,” President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. underscored as he witnessed the signing of the Connection Agreement for the Innovative Isabela Ground Mounted Solar Project (IGMSP).
A partnership between the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), the San Ignacio Energy Resources Development Corporation (SIERDC) and the Government of France, the 440-Megawatt Peak (MWp) solar project is seen as a significant step towards transitioning to green energy, especially in achieving a future of sustainability, economic growth and a better life for all Filipinos.
In his remarks, President Marcos Jr. expressed his utmost gratitude to the private sector involved in the groundbreaking project, commending their hard work and commitment to transforming the energy landscape, not just in Isabela, but throughout the entire country.
“It is also about strengthening our entire national grid and moving us closer to a resilient and renewable energy-secure future… Your commitment to renewable energy development in the Philippines shows the importance of international cooperation in tackling global challenges,” he said.
Located in the Province of Isabela, particularly in the City of Ilagan and the Municipality of Gamu, the project is expected to commence in the 4th quarter of 2024. With an investment of PhP18 billion, the IGMSP is projected to support the government’s efforts in creating more options for producing clean and reliable energy amidst the issues of climate change. It will be situated on 392 hectares of land and is envisioned to generate socioeconomic development in the Province by providing employment opportunities to more than 4,000 Filipinos during construction.
The President urged the NGCP to work closely with the government in ensuring the Philippines’ energy infrastructure security, reliability and capability in meeting the growing demands of the nation, noting that this kind of project serves as a catalyst of the country’s positive transformation.
“Let us continue to pursue extraordinary opportunities like this to give ourselves and the next generation a fighting chance to succeed in reversing our exacerbating climate problems… Through this collective commitment, we will ensure that renewable energy is not just a source of power but a light, a guide, our north star, guiding our nation’s resilience, innovation, and forward-thinking spirit,” President Marcos Jr. emphasized in his message.
