President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. convened with the members of the Private Sector Advisory Council (PSAC) – Infrastructure Sector Group for a meeting at the Kalayaan Hall, Malacañan Palace on June 5, 2024.

First on the agenda, PSAC Lead Convenor and Infrastructure Sector Group Lead Sabin Aboitiz talked about matters arising from the manufacturing sector concerning specific construction materials that can be used for government infrastructure projects, as well as from the water sector following the proposed creation of the Department of Water Resources.

He also opened the discussions for infrastructure recommendations where PSAC members presented their respective reports on various topics of national concern. On Transport and Mobility, Mr. Rogelio Singson (PSAC Transport & Mobility SME) explained the Group’s recommendations to transform the public transport system in the Greater Manila Area to ensure its efficiency, safety and universal accessibility to the riding public.

On Logistics and Supply Chain, Mr. Christian Gonzalez (PSAC Logistics SME) explained the measures being proposed to enhance the country’s logistics’ visibility and transparency in order to reduce total cost for Filipino consumers, exporters and importers, as well as improve the time-to-market for both inbound and outbound goods and products.

In terms of Energy, Mr. Danel Aboitiz (PSAC Energy SME) touched on recent developments in the power industry where he explained the government reactions to the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) Energy Market Suspension during the issuance of red alert last April, the reserves market suspension and the penalization of generation companies (GenCos) for deemed excessive outages. He likewise presented the Group’s recommendations to break out from the vicious cycle of brownouts, as well as updates on regulatory reform, transmission and contracting for energy affordability.
