President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. welcomed Her Excellency Dr. Catherine Rosemary McIntosh, Ambassador-Designate of New Zealand to the Philippines, as the latter formally presented her letter of credence in a ceremony at the Reception Hall in Malacañan Palace.
Ambassador McIntosh succeeded former New Zealand envoy Peter Kell who concluded his diplomatic posting in the Philippines last April.
In brief remarks, the Ambassador expressed New Zealand’s continuous support to the Philippine Government in ways to further strengthen the already robust ties in various areas of mutual cooperation, which has been existing for more than 50 years.
For his part, President Marcos Jr. reaffirmed the Philippines’ readiness to continuously elevate bilateral relations between the two countries, and underscored plans to explore many potentials to increase the involvement and exchanges of the two governments to boost existing partnership.
The Philippines and New Zealand formally established diplomatic relations on July 6, 1966. For more than five (5) decades, New Zealand has been one of the Philippines’ important partners in trade and investments, export, import source and tourism, among others.
