President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led the inspection of farmlands affected by the El Niño phenomenon at Sitio San Carlos in Barangay Central, Municipality of San Jose, Occidental Mindoro.

Five (5) towns in Oriental and Occidental Mindoro have recently been declared under a state of calamity as a result of the El Niño phenomenon. These towns include Mansalay and Bulalacao in Oriental Mindoro as well as Looc, Magsaysay and San Jose in Occidental Mindoro.

Reports indicate that approximately 1,000 farmers have been directly affected by this calamity, with an additional 1,000 farmers currently undergoing verification. The drought has caused significant damage to around 2,000 hectares of agricultural land.

Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr., DA Assistant Secretary Genevieve Velicaria-Guevarra, National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Administrator Eduardo Guillen, Occidental Mindoro Lone District Representative Leody Tarriela, Occidental Mindoro Vice Governor Aniceta Diana Apigo-Tayag and DA-4B Executive Director Christopher Bañas joined President Marcos Jr. in the site inspection.
