As the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) wraps up its successful campaign against misinformation and disinformation in the Visayas Region, the PCO CommUnity Caravan engages more students of the Leyte Normal University (LNU) on the second day of its Media and Information Literacy drive in Tacloban City, Leyte on February 23, 2024.
News agencies and broadcast networks under the PCO umbrella encourage more students to participate in the nationwide effort to combat the spread of false information by showcasing the government’s initiatives and services.
In her message, LNU President Dr. Evelyn Aguirre conveys her deepest appreciation, on behalf of the University, towards PCO for the initiative of bringing the caravan to Leyte. According to her, this serves as a great platform for ‘Normalistas’ to be equipped with knowledge about media and information literacy amidst a society where information comes in different forms and can be accessed easily by anyone.
Likewise, students from LNU also express their gratitude for the conduct of the campus caravan at the University, saying this provided them countless opportunities to be familiarized with the latest equipment and technology that has changed the media landscape today.
The PCO CommUnity Caravan is pursuant to Proclamation No. 308, series of 2023 signed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. declaring the month of October each year as ‘Communication Month.’ As the lead Agency, PCO plans to take the caravan to different schools and universities across the country to inspire the Filipino youth in grassroots nation-building initiatives in support of the Administration’s ‘Bagong Pilipinas.’
This is the first leg of the PCO CommUnity Caravan in Visayas following its successful launch last December 2023 in Manila.
