Nurturing friendship that has spanned 48 years and setting a goal of boosting trade cooperation with the Socialist Republic of Vietnam are among the priorities of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. when he embarks on a State Visit to Hanoi, Vietnam on 29-30 January 2024.

In an interview with RTVM, Ambassador Meynardo Montealegre, the nation’s envoy to Vietnam, shares that the forthcoming visit is a milestone between the two country’s relations that was started by the President’s father, the late President Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr.

“In 2015, we established and elevated relations into a strategic partnership. Vietnam is the only ASEAN country where we have established a strategic partnership and we would like to maintain that and further deepen our cooperation and partnership with this country,” Ambassador Montealegre says.

He expresses the excitement and anticipation of Filipinos in Vietnam leading up to the community gathering with President Marcos Jr., noting their significant contribution to the economic development of their second home.

“Rest assured that the Philippine Embassy will continue to work together with the various agencies here in Vietnam in order to further deepen our close cooperation with them…and to advance and promote the Philippine interests here in Vietnam,” the Ambassador underscores.
