President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. engaged in a discussion regarding the electronic Local Government Unit (eLGU) system Caravan as he presided over a sectoral meeting at the State Dining Room in Malacañan Palace.

The eLGU is among the vital components of the Department of Information and Communications Technology’s (DICT) eGov PH Super App — a mobile application that integrates the multi-sectoral government services in a single platform — covering a wide range of local government services such as business permit licensing, community tax, local civil registry and many others.

Anchored on the Administration’s whole-of-government agenda, the eLGU nationwide caravan is a joint project of the Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), and Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).

During the meeting, DILG Secretary Benjamin ‘Benhur’ Abalos Jr. briefly reported on the initiatives implemented by the Department in improving the bureaucratic efficiency of the LGUs. He shared that as of December last year, 921 (out of 1,634) LGUs already have a business permit system. Of this number, 799 LGUs employ the eLGU system while 122 localities have their own innovative systems.

In a separate presentation, ARTA Secretary Ernesto Perez reported that 19 localities were determined to have a fully streamlined and automated Electronic Business One Stop Shops (eBOSS), which is pursuant to Section 11(c) of Republic Act (RA) No. 11032 or the Ease of Doing Business and Efficient Government Service Delivery Act of 2018.
