President Joko Widodo of Indonesia concludes his three-day Official Visit to the Philippines that strengthened relations between the two countries, as he departs from Villamor Air Base in Pasay City on January 11, 2024.
During his visit, President Widodo held a bilateral meeting with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. where they discussed enhancing collaboration across various areas, including political, security and economic partnership.
Aiming to strengthen cooperation on energy security, both leaders witnessed the presentation of the signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Cooperation in the Field of Energy, as well as reaffirmed their respective countries’ commitment to the universality of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) — as founding members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
The Indonesian leader also conducted site inspections at the Kopiko Philippines Corporation (KPC) – Laguna Plant in Calamba and W Hydrocolloids, Inc. – Carmona Plant in Cavite, where he noted the two (2) plants’ potential positive impact to Indonesian farmers.
Sending off President Widodo are Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., Philippine Ambassador to Indonesia Gina Jamoralin and Pasay City Mayor Imelda Calixto-Rubiano.
