“Through your programs and initiatives, you have effectively elevated and empowered the voices of our small farmers, fisherfolk, and rural workers, across the nation,” President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. expressed as he led the 70th Anniversary of the Federation of Free Farmers (FFF) in Visayas Avenue, Quezon City.

In his keynote address, President Marcos Jr. expressed his unwavering support for the advocacy of the Federation, much like his late father, former President Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr. “It was because you shared a common goal of advancing social reform and rural development in our country,” he said.

“Indeed, this is the kind of uplifting synergy that we in the government anticipate from our private sector partners—partners who ardently champion social justice and actively contribute to our nation’s socio-economic advancement,” he added.

During the event, the Chief Executive reaffirmed the Administration’s commitment to prioritize the agricultural sector through various measures. These measures include enhancing the nation’s agricultural productivity, implementing policies to protect the welfare of farmers, fisherfolk, manufacturers, and the consuming public, promoting growth in the fisheries and farming industries, increasing the exportation of agricultural products, and strengthening associations and cooperatives to provide investment opportunities.

Likewise, he mentioned the allocation of PhP4.73 billion from the Department of Agriculture (DA) as an investment for large-scale agriculture and fishery mechanization and modernization in 2023.

“Indeed, you have my assurance that the government is striving to implement efficient mechanization strategies, reduce post-harvest losses, and ensure optimal yield,” he said.

As the concurrent DA Secretary, he urged all the members of the Federation to continue supporting and empowering farmers and fisherfolk through enhanced programs and prioritizations.

“I look forward to more of your endeavors that will contribute to our shared vision of a ‘Bagong Pilipinas’ and help us march towards achieving a food and nutrition-secure Philippines,” the President concluded in his message.
