President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. received the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) in a courtesy call at the President’s Hall in Malacañan Palace.

During the event, JCCI Chairman Ken Kobayashi said that the meeting was proof of the high-level interest that Japanese corporations have for the Philippines. He highlighted the two countries’ strong business relations for the past decades, noting that the first joint conference of JCCI was held in Manila in 1974.

In response, President Marcos Jr. acknowledged Japan as the Philippines’ largest trading partner and top source of approved foreign investments, apart from the continuous assistance of the Japanese government in terms of infrastructure development.

He mentioned ways to further develop both nations’ economies, emphasizing the Philippines’ focus on new technologies that form part of the digital movement towards transforming the global economy.

The Chief Executive also identified other areas for collaboration such as climate change mitigation and shift to renewable sources of energy, among others.
