President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. welcomed Her Excellency Betty Oyella Bigombe, Non-Resident Ambassador-Designate of the Republic of Uganda to the Philippines, as she formally presented her credentials in a ceremony in Malacañan Palace.

In presenting her letter of credence, Ambassador-Designate Bigombe noted that Uganda and the Philippines have enjoyed warm, cordial and traditional relations for a long time, being on the same path of delivering economic development towards their peoples. She assured the Chief Executive of her best efforts in promoting the two nations’ bilateral partnership.

In response, President Marcos Jr. expressed optimism towards exploring more areas of cooperation between the Philippines and Uganda.

According to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), there are around 250 Filipinos in Uganda. Many of them are working in the construction sector (as engineers), educational institutions, United Nations (UN) agencies, religious missions and multinational corporations.
