President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led the distribution of 25 kilos of rice to 2,000 beneficiaries from indigent families and indigenous peoples of Camarines Sur in a ceremony at the University of Saint Anthony (USANT) Forum Building in Iriga City.
In his message, the Chief Executive assured them that there is sufficient rice in the country despite the rising cost of this staple food, which has forced the Administration to implement a price cap.
“Marami naman tayong bigas, hindi lang nailalabas nang tama. Kaya hindi problema ang supply natin dito sa Pilipinas,” he said, citing recent reports from the Department of Agriculture (DA) that rice production this year has increased compared to last year’s yield.
“Kailangan nating ayusin ang sistema…Mula sa research and development, hanggang sa pagtanim, hanggang sa processing, hanggang sa distribution marketing. Kaya ang ginagawa natin ay binubuo po natin yan,” he added.
President Marcos Jr. also conveyed his hopes that these challenges would soon be addressed.
The distributed sacks of rice, totaling PhP2.5 million, have been purchased directly from local millers in the Province to ensure that the most vulnerable sectors, all of whom are Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries, are provided with an ample supply of staple food.
