July 26, 2023
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. joined Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim in a dinner hosted by the Malaysian leader at the world’s tallest twin skyscrapers and one of Malaysia’s famous landmarks — the PETRONAS Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur.
Earlier, the President held a bilateral meeting with the Malaysian Prime Minister wherein they discussed anew the deepening relations between the Philippines and Malaysia, following the call for more collaborative initiatives in new areas of cooperation. Both leaders expressed commitment in building the capacity of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), especially in the sectors of Halal Industry, Islamic Banking and food security.
President Marcos Jr. also announced plans for the conduct of the Philippines-Malaysia Joint Commission Meeting (JMC) that will serve as an avenue for both governments to discuss priority cooperation in detail, including transnational crimes, agriculture, Halal Industry, Islamic Banking, education, tourism, culture, sports and the digital economy.
During the dinner, the Chief Executive and the Malaysian Prime Minister briefly witnessed a light show at the fountain area of the facility. Outside the building, the entire PETRONAS Twin Towers were brightly lit with the colors of the Philippine flag — blue, red, yellow and white — to mark the President’s State Visit to Malaysia.
At the end of the event, President Marcos Jr. received a gift from Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim – a replica helmet of Lewis Hamilton, seven-time Formula One World Champion (Mercedes AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team), with compliments from PETRONAS.
