After the visits at the Government House and Parliament complex, President Aquino paid tribute to the New Zealander war heroes by laying a wreath at the National War Memorial in Wellington.
The President, assisted by memorial curator Mr. Paul Riley, placed a red rose at the tomb of the Unknown Warrior whose remains were unidentified when he died during a war in Somme, France between 1916 and 1918.
The National War Memorial was built in the 1930s and in the 1960s to remember the New Zealanders who served and died during the South African War, World War I and II, and the conflicts in Korea, Malaysia and Vietnam. It houses the Hall of Memories, the Carillon tower and the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior.
