“It is our turn now to return the favor, the support, and the affection that you have given us with the services of government not only to the OFWs but also to all our Filipino citizens,” affirmed President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. as he recognized the significance and vital role of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in the country’s robust economic growth.

Speaking before thousands of Filipinos in Tokyo as he wrapped up his successful five-day Official Visit to Japan, the President promised to give back to the OFWs and vowed to continuously uphold their rights and welfare in honor of their hard work and sacrifices as ‘ambassadors’ in showcasing Filipino skills and talent in the global scene.

“Nandiyan po ang ating bagong Department of Migrant Workers, at nandiyan po sila. Wala po silang ibang gagawin kung hindi asikasuhin kayo at bigyan kayo ng tulong kapag nangangailangan,” remarked the President.

According to Philippine Ambassador Mylene Garcia-Albano, there are currently around 290,000 skilled and professional Filipinos throughout Japan. Majority of them are employed as English teachers, engineers, as well as in the sectors of maritime, hotel and restaurant, and information technology (IT), among others.
