“Alam niyo po ito’y pamamaraan upang makapagbigay tayo ng pagkakataon sa ating mga kababayan na makabili ng mga iba’t ibang commodities na may savings dahil nga eh dumederetso kami sa supplier,” shared President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. when he opened another Kadiwa ng Pasko Caravan in Quezon City where goods produced locally are being sold at lower prices.
In time for the Christmas season, the Kadiwa ng Pasko Caravan was launched in November this year through the initiative of the Office of the President (OP) and spearheaded by the Department of Agriculture (DA). Aside from promoting and providing affordable local products, it helps local farmers to earn more through a direct farm-to-consumer food supply chain that eliminates several marketing layers while at the same time providing the local community with inexpensive high-quality products to help them counter the effects of global inflation.
He acknowledged the efforts of the local government units (LGUs) for initiating the endeavor and expressed the Administration’s commitment to formally make it as a national program. “Gagawin natin ito national program na. Hindi lamang sa mga LGU, magtutulungan na ang Office of the President at ang ating mga LGU para lahat, dahan-dahan kumakalat ang dami nito,” he expressed, while giving assurance that the Kadiwa ng Pasko Caravan will continue even after the Yuletide season.
The participating sellers from different agencies in today’s caravan included the DA, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and National Food Authority (NFA).
Some of the fresh produce being sold are red onion priced at PhP170/kilo, rice at PhP25/kilo, and a tray of eggs at PhP210, among others.
