President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern of New Zealand discussed the further strengthening of bilateral relations and cooperation between the Philippines and New Zealand as the two Leaders held a meeting on the sidelines of the 29th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok, Thailand.
The discussions focused primarily on matters concerning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), where the two Leaders vowed to strengthen their commitment in improving the welfare and addressing the needs of OFWs.
According to the Office of the Press Secretary (OPS), both Leaders expressed ‘readiness to empower Filipino migrant workers and enhance the capacity to respond to their needs.’
Likewise, the Chief Executive and Prime Minister Ardern tackled further cooperation in terms of trade, agriculture and security efforts, where the President pointed out that the country’s relation with New Zealand is in a ‘steady pace’.
