President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. participated in the first Retreat Session of the 29th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok, Thailand.

Anchored on discussions for the advancement of the Asia-Pacific region, the President and his fellow Economic Leaders exchanged views on the current global economic challenges and how to achieve a balanced, inclusive and sustainable growth among the Member Economies.

In his intervention, President Marcos Jr. highlighted the government’s socioeconomic agenda that is projected to lift Filipinos out of poverty, reinvigorate job creation and improve overall quality of life.

He underscored three (3) vital pillars which he considered drivers of sustainable and inclusive growth in the Asia-Pacific region. These are trade and investment, digitalization and innovation, and climate change.

Further, the Chief Executive expressed support towards the Bio-Circular Green (BCG) Economy Model which Thailand has adopted as part of the region’s post-pandemic national recovery strategy. According to its website, this economic model integrates three (3) approaches geared towards sustainability for a holistic and balanced approach in the region’s economic environment.

President Marcos Jr. added that the BCG Economic Model is aligned with the Administration’s agenda of pushing for quality jobs, providing opportunities to untapped economic potential and reduce the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, among others.

“Colleagues, as the world emerges from the downturn caused by the pandemic, it is evident that recovery has been uneven, inequitable and insufficiently supportive of a green transition. Economies must leverage this opportunity to recalibrate policies to promote a green post-pandemic recovery,” President Marcos Jr. remarked.
