In time with the 45 years of long-standing relations between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Canada, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. assured the Philippines’ commitment to more robust and substantial cooperation during his intervention at the ASEAN-Canada Commemorative Summit in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

As the ASEAN and Canada have continued to explore common ground in addressing global issues, the President particularly pointed out three (3) main cooperation areas including the rights of migrant workers, on women and on biodiversity.

Canada is considered home to around 900,000 Filipinos. President Marcos Jr. recognized Canada’s support for the TRIANGLE in ASEAN Project which promotes fair migration across the region.

He likewise welcomed Canada’s continued cooperation in the Region’s initiatives for Women, Peace and Security (WPS) and called for its further assistance for the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB), as ASEAN is taking significant steps to preserve varied ecosystems and mainstream biodiversity across relevant sectors in order to increase climate change resilience and prevent the threats of emerging and re-emerging diseases and pandemics.
