President Rodrigo Roa Duterte presided a situation briefing to discuss the aftermath of the extensive flooding in the Cagayan Valley Region brought by Typhoon ‘Ulysses’ (international name: ‘Vamco’).

Aside from the tail-end of a cold front intensified by Typhoon Ulysses, the floods that affected the Provinces of Cagayan, Isabela and Tuguegarao City were caused by several factors including the release of excess water from the Magat Dam when it reached critical level and rainwater that flowed downstream from the mountains.

During the situation briefing, the Chief Executive said that mining is also a major cause of the massive flooding and directed the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to investigate mining operations in the region.

Aside from the situation briefing, President Duterte visited areas in Solana, Cagayan to check the situation of families and residents affected by the onslaught of the recent typhoon.
