President Rodrigo Roa Duterte met the members of the Philippine Surfing Team who competed in the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, currently hosted by the country, in a photo opportunity at the Kalayaan Grounds in Malacañan Palace.

One of the Filipino surfers, Roger Casugay, rescued his Indonesian rival Arip Nurhidayat during the men’s longboard competition last December 6, 2019 (Friday) after his surfboard leash broke in the middle of the event due to pounding of ‘triple overhead bomb waves’. Casugay’s heroic act went viral on social media, with netizens praising his ‘heart of a champion’.

The team recently bagged gold, silver and bronze medals during the SEA Games’ surfing event in San Juan, La Union on December 8, 2019 (Sunday).
