President Rodrigo Roa Duterte led the conferment ceremony for the five (5) top-performing local government units (LGUs) in the 2018 Presidential Award for Child-Friendly Municipalities and Cities (PACFMC) at the Rizal Hall in Malacañan Palace.

With the LGU of Tagaytay City winning the highly coveted Hall of Fame Award, President Duterte urged its officials and the other LGUs present in the ceremony to strive for sustainable peace and development for the younger generations to enjoy.

Likewise, he gave his reassurrance that the government remains relentless in its efforts to fight illegal drugs, criminality, terrorism, and environmental degradation to pave the path for a better future.

“We will continue to persevere in this aspiration because we are committed in fostering a better and brighter future for the Filipino children,” said the President.

The Chief Executive also acknowledged the efforts of the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC) and its partners in upholding its duties to carry out the PACFMC.

“Through your continuing partnership and collaboration with our local government units, you have created an environment where we can achieve the full realization of our vision for the Filipino children,” said President Duterte. He also highlighted the vital role of adults in ensuring the success of the younger generation as leaders and bearers of the nation’s patrimony.

“I hope that today’s gathering will encourage all stakeholders to further strengthen our ties and build new alliances as we work together — and build new alliances — in creating a safe, empowering and child-friendly environment where children can fully enjoy their rights,” President Duterte added, reiterating his gratitude towards CWC and the LGUs, as well as expressing his confidence in them to surpass their previous achievement as he ended his remarks.

The LGUs of Carmona, Cavite and Sto. Tomas, La Union emerged as the winner for the 1st to 3rd class, and 3rd to 6th class municipality, respectively. The LGU of Naga City received the Independent Component City Award, while the LGU of Tagaytay City received the Component City trophy, winning two (2) awards in the same night.

The PACFMC is conferred to LGUs in recognition of their important role in promoting children’s rights to survival, development, protection and participation, as well as ensuring child-friendly governance.
