“Mahalaga ang tubig, kaya naman, mahalaga ring mapangalagaan at mapangasiwaan ito upang mapakinabangan ng mas maraming Pilipino,” said President Benigno S. Aquino III during the inauguration of the new North Rizal Water System Project at Barangay Payatas in Quezon City.
President Aquino stated that the new water supply system will provide citizens of Rodriguez and San Mateo, Rizal, as well as Marikina City, with clean and potable water straight from their faucets and not from deep wells. He thanked the Metropolitan Waterworks Sewerage System, Manila Water Company, local government officials and beneficiaries of the project for collaborating efforts in completing the project.
He also enumerated several water projects and initiatives including the completion of the Angat Water Utilization and Aqueduct Improvement Project Phase II in July and the signing of agreement between MWSS and the provincial government of Bulacan for the Bulacan Bulk Water Supply Project. He also mentioned the NEDA approval of Angat Dam and Dike Strengthening Project and the flood management project worth P6.276 for Metro Manila and its surrounding areas.
The North Rizal Water System Project is the largest water treatment facility of Manila Water. It is composed of the East La Mesa Water Treatment Plant, two reservoirs, plus water transmission and distribution mainlines. It has a capacity to treat 150 million liters of water per day and will serve almost 1 million Filipinos.
Public Works and Highways Secretary Rogelio Singson, Metropolitan Waterworks Sewerage System Chairman Ramon Alikpala and Manila Water Company Inc. President and CEO Gerardo Ablaza Jr. joined President Aquino in touring the flocculator and filter beds facility.
