President Benigno S. Aquino III inaugurated the newly-rehabilitated environmental facility of the Philippine Associated Smelting and Refining Corporation (PASAR) after it was seriously damaged by fire in January of this year. This also signalled the restart of operations of the first and only copper-smelting company in the country.
The President, together with the top officials of PASAR, conducted a windshield tour and inspection of the facilities including the Acid Plant, Mist Electrostatic Precipitator, Port Facility, Anode Furnace Casting Wheel and the Refinery.
In his speech, the President lauded the commitment and concern of PASAR by not merely making a profit but by supporting the community that makes profit possible.
PASAR was established 25 years ago in response to the presence of abundant copper resources in the Philippines. Its primary product is electrolytic copper cathode which produces wire rod that is being used as conductor of electricity and electronic parts.
